Piece by Piece by Elisabeth Staab - Blog Tour Highlight

I am participating in this blog tour on a whim! I've never read anything by this author and know nothing about this book. Or, more accurately, I knew nothing about this book. But now, it's on my TBR. Check out the highlights below. Also, there is a giveaway sign up at the bottom. But I entered it myself, so I have mixed feelings about you winning. Sorry.

Top Ten Tuesday - Audiobook-a-palooza!!

September 20: All About Audio freebie --  aka top ten audiobooks you should listen to, 10 books I want to listen to on audio,10 bands you should check out, 10 podcasts you should be listening to, 10 of my all time favorite albums, 10 songs I love, really whatever you can come up with (hosted by Broke and Bookish).

Audiobooks! I love them, although it took me a while to really understand how awesome they are. (Here’s a post about that.)
I read about a third of the books that I read via audiobook, mostly in the car and on my walks into work from the parking lot. This also justifies my constantly being on the look out for headphones that will become THE ONES.

So, here’s what I did. I went to my audiobook shelf on Goodreads and looked to see which books I gave 5 starts to.

Book Review: Brake Failure by Alison Brodie

I received a copy of this eBook for free in exchange for a review. I was happy to get the opportunity after reading another of Ms. Brodie's books.

"Is it too late to tell him you love him when you're looking down the barrel of his gun?"

Ruby Mortimer-Smyth is upper-class English, rigidly brought up to marry a man from the pages of Burke’s Peerage. She knows the etiquette for every occasion and her souffl├ęs NEVER collapse. She is in control of her life, tightly in control. Until …she ends up in Kansas.

Ruby, far from home, is making Unsuitable Friends and "finding herself" for the first time. She falls in with a gang of Hells Angels and falls foul of the law. At every turn, she comes up hard against Sheriff Hank Gephart, whose blue eyes seem to look deep into her soul. She desperately wants him, but knows she can never have him. As the clock strikes midnight of the new Millennium, she's on a freight train with three million dollars, a bottle of Wild Turkey and a smoking gun.

What happened to Miss Prim-and-Proper? And why did she shoot Mr Right?

Oubox Sept 10 - Reading, RAPA and Rocky Horror

This is a sad little Outbox post, reading wise. It’s already the 10th and I’ve only finished three books! Of course, The Twelve is a massive tome, so it totally counts as two! Anyway this post is all about the books I've managed to read and the stuff that's been getting in the way of all the stuff I wanted to be reading.

Book Review: Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton

Rebel of the Sands has been on my radar for about a hundred years, even though it was pubbed just a few months ago. This must mean that I saw some early cover reveals or something. Anyhooo. I checked it out from the library and read it in about two seconds.
Here’s the GoodReads mumbo Jumbo.
Mortals rule the desert nation of Miraji, but mythical beasts still roam the wild and remote areas, and rumor has it that somewhere, djinn still perform their magic.  For humans, it’s an unforgiving place, especially if you’re poor, orphaned, or female.

Amani Al’Hiza is all three.  She’s a gifted gunslinger with perfect aim, but she can’t shoot her way out of Dustwalk, the back-country town where she’s destined to wind up wed or dead.

Then she meets Jin, a rakish foreigner, in a shooting contest, and sees him as the perfect escape route. But though she’s spent years dreaming of leaving Dustwalk, she never imagined she’d gallop away on mythical horse—or that it would take a foreign fugitive to show her the heart of the desert she thought she knew.

Rebel of the Sands reveals what happens when a dream deferred explodes—in the fires of rebellion, of romantic passion, and the all-consuming inferno of a girl finally, at long last, embracing her power.
